Ad Hoc Query
A common frustration of users, regardless of the type of database their application runs on, is the difficulty in extracting information from the database without involving a technical resource.
To help Notes/Domino users overcome this issue, we have developed an Ad Hoc Query tool which allows users, with no technical expertise whatsoever, to query the database and have the results exported to Microsoft Excel. Once the data is in Excel, users can format, graph and do “what if” analysis like they can in any spreadsheet.
Imagine being able to simply select the information you want to report on, define the selection criteria and have the output exported to an Excel spreadsheet…already formatted and sorted for you.
Initially developed for our Environmental Health Inspection system, which uses a Brower interface, we have modified our Ad Hoc Query tool to work with Notes Client applications as well.
Of course, there is some effort required to integrate the tool with individual databases. But it is a relatively small one-time investment, which provides users the ability to be self-sufficient in terms of creating queries and reports.
